Diamond earrings make a stunning gift for her, for any special occasion such as a birthday, anniversary or Christmas.
Created in all the jewellery precious metals of hallmarked white gold, yellow gold and platinum, diamond earrings most typically use round brilliant cut diamonds or princess cut diamonds. However, as fancy shaped diamonds such as marquise cut diamonds, pear cut diamonds and emerald cut diamonds, for example, continue to flourish in popularity, so do diamond earrings with matching shaped diamonds.
Ladies diamond earrings are usually either claw set - where the diamonds are held in place by two or more prongs - or rub over set, where the diamonds are fully encased in precious metal, with just the table (top surface) showing.
In terms of earring fasteners, the traditional method is using butterfly clips whereby the user has to squeeze together fasteners at the back of the earrings to release the fastening mechanisms. However, many high quality diamond earrings can also now be created using screw back fasteners which offer welcome added security.
Consumers should note that when diamond earrings are advertised, their diamond carat weight is displayed as a total. That is to say, therefore, that if a pair of diamond earrings is advertised as having a total weight of diamonds of half a carat, then there is a quarter carat total weight of diamonds in each ear.
